“There’s something so calming, so beautiful about creating something from scratch. About picking up a pencil and scribbling, scrumbling, scrawling away until it’s nothing more than a pile of wood shavings at your feet. A life cycle, of sorts. One the world typically only catches the end of. But layered in are hours of works, blistered fingers and feet, dry eyes and aching spines.”

Naia Lucy Briscall (b. 1999), currently based in London, UK, is a dedicated artist who specialises in the realm of figurative art, utilising graphite as her primary medium. Her artistic signature is defined by the harmonious blending of two seemingly divergent realms: the meticulous representation of the human form and the abstract exploration of mixed media. This fusion serves as a means for her to draw attention to the subtle complexities of the human body and mind, all while underscoring the profound interconnectedness between humanity and the natural world.

Before embarking on her full-time career as an artist, Naia pursued a degree in mathematics at university. This academic background lends her artistry a sense of precision, structure and an acute appreciation for form.

She frequently turns the lens inward, creating compelling self-portraits. These introspective pieces serve as a canvas through which she delves into her own psyche, navigating the intricate interplay of identity, emotions, and the broader human experience.

Naia’s artwork beckons viewers to contemplate the multifaceted aspects of human existence, encouraging them to explore the depths of human connection while appreciating the beauty and complexity of the physical and emotional self.

“My intention is not to provoke or shock, but to challenge preconceived notions and foster dialogues about the profound power and agency inherent in the female form. These elements within my work serve as a call to question stereotypes and ignite conversations that encourage a broader understanding of womanhood and femininity.”

“In essence, my art is a vehicle for introspection and discourse. An exploration of the boundaries that define our perceptions of beauty, power and identity. Through my developing collections, I aspire to invoke thought, evoke emotion, and ultimately inspire a stronger connection between art and the human experience.”
